| GreenMe is an Australian owned and operated business, located in Perth, that is committed to sustainability and the environment and it all began with the vision of GreenMe's founder and owner, Tyson Menck.
About Tyson Menck (GreenMe Founder & Owner)
Tyson Menck is passionate about living more sustainably and established GreenMe in 2010 as a way to assist others in making sustainable changes.
Tyson has lived in Perth, Western Australia, since he was eleven. He is married to Clare and in 2009 they had their first child, Eva. Becoming a parent has given Tyson a renewed perspective on the imperative to change the way we live, as he has a responsibility to a future generation in a way he did not feel before.
After twelve years in IT, Tyson undertook post graduate studies in sustainable development at Murdoch University, completing his Masters in 2009. He has trained as a Home Sustainability Assessor and enjoys keeping up to date with innovations that creatively reduce energy and water usage while enabling a generous lifestyle.
Tyson’s approach to sustainability includes economic, social and cultural consideration as well as environmental aspects. He believes that making changes should improve livability as well as reducing environmental impact. That is, we can at the same time both live better, richer lives AND consume less. Sustainability is not just about appeasing one’s conscience. It makes good economic sense.
Some of Tyson’s influences include Transition Towns, the Slow Food Movement, Buckminster Fuller, Al Gore and Amory Lovins. He chooses not to have a television or receive junk mail, to reduce his intake of material suggesting he is inadequate and needs to consume more.
His home is regularly open to friends old and new and he and his family strive to celebrate whatever they can, as often as they can. As Tyson puts it, ‘I guess our domestic philosophy is one of “less stuff, more people”.’
In his own home, Tyson has taken an incremental approach to domestic sustainability. Some of the measures he has already implemented include compact fluorescent light globes, water saving shower heads, a simple ‘off’ switch for the home office to ensure it is not left on standby, a gravity feed irrigation system supplied with water collected in buckets from the shower and washing machine, shade cloth to east and west facing windows, and setting the air conditioner at 27 degrees in summer and 19 degrees in winter.
Tyson is optimistic, progressive and practical. He is excited by the cultural shift towards sustainable living and looks forward to working with GreenMe clients to find realistic ways to meet their sustainability goals.
